Miss Pancontinental 2015 Contestant Leaves Pageant Due To Safety Concerns
Some news outlets in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, among others, are running a story about a Miss Pancontinental 2015 contestant who left the beauty pageant because of safety and security concerns.

Nicole Harding of Christchurch, New Zealand said she and a few other candidates of the inaugural beauty contest were forced to spend a night at a hotel, which she likened to a prison jail and guarded by armed gunmen and dogs, after a mix-up in booking at their original accommodation.

"They took us to this hotel, which, in New Zealand, I would liken to a prison cell. There were guys out the front with machine guns and dogs," she said.

The 22-year-old nursing student added that the room was "crawling with bugs" and only had one double-sized bed with a thin mattress on a concrete floor which was to be shared by three people.

The incident took place in Cagayan de Oro, where most of the pageant's heats are being held. The contestants had spent a couple of days at a 5-star hotel in Manila prior to flying to CdeO. They are scheduled to go back to the capital city for the coronation night.

Harding only got more afraid about her safety when a government official told her that the area was not safe.

"We met with the Cagayan governor and he said it was not safe to be here, this place is more unsafe than Afghanistan," she was quoted as saying. "He told us, where we were, they kidnap people and use them as sex slaves, it's the number one place for human trafficking and we needed to get these girls out of here."

Together with Miss USA, Ashely Clark, Harding decided to leave the competition and traveled back to Manila where they arranged their flights back to their home countries.

According to them, at least three other contestants also pulled out from the beauty contest because of security concerns and poor organization.

"Unfortunately I am having to leave the Miss Pancontinental pageant early," Harding wrote in a Facebook post. "Due to my safety and security the New Zealand Embassy has decided that it is best if I fly back to New Zealand. I'm saddened that this has to come to an end as I have worked so hard to get here but with the lack of organization, climate and security it is unsafe for me to be here any longer. Thank you to everyone that has been there to support me through this experience and I am looking forward to touching down in New Zealand and seeing all of my friends and family!"

Mister International 2014 Postponed Again
Mister International 2014 has been moved to another date yet again.

The ninth edition of the male beauty competition will be held on February 14, 2015 in Seoul, South Korea. Organizers said the South Korean government decided to suspend all major events to be held this year following a concert accident that killed sixteen people last month.

"Once again, we sincerely seek your kind understanding in our difficult position at this time," the Mister International organizers said in a press release. "It has been a most trying challenge for us to get the pageant going. We are truly apologetic for any inconvenience caused to you and your contestant."

Originally scheduled in October, the pageant was earlier postponed to November 29 because three members of the organizers sustained serious injuries from a traffic accident in September.

Police officer Mariano Flormata Jr. will be representing the Philippines in the contest.

Neil Perez Leading In Mister International 2014 Poll
Mister Philippines Mariano Perez Flormata, Jr., a.k.a. Neil Perez, is currently number 1 in the Mister International 2014 poll being conducted on the website of Madrid-based newspaper 20 Minutos.

The 29-year-old policeman has so far gathered 13,292 points, ranking first among the fifty-five contestants of the beauty competition. Taking the second spot is Mister Honduras Kilber Ponce with 12,507 points, while Mister Bolivia Emir Avila is third with 9,648 points.

In the online poll, netizens are asked to rate the candidates on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest).

Although the survey seems to be not official, it suggests that Filipinos are all-out in their support to their representative. The Philippines highest placement in the 8-year-old pageant was last year when Gil Wagas was named 4th runner-up.

The coronation night of Mister International 2014 is set to be held on November 29 in Seoul, Korea. It previously scheduled in October but has been postponed because three members of the organizers sustained serious injuries from a traffic accident last month.

Miss Colombia Lucia Aldana Exposes Favoritism In Miss Universe
Miss Colombia 2012 Lucia Aldana, who competed in Miss Universe 2013, echoed the claims that favoritism exists in the international beauty pageant.

In a November 12 interview with WRadio, Aldana said that representatives of those countries that pay high franchise fees to the Miss Universe organization are being given special treatment. She insinuated that Donald Trump handpicks the candidates that make it to the Top 16.

She also said that the Philippines has a major advantage because of the amount of support from fans, Filipinos in the venue who cheer loudly for their candidate, and the magnitude of viewership from Philippines, which all count in placing. It's not only preparations which count, she said.

Below are excerpts of the interview translated in English:

"Miss Universe is not as glamorous as it seems on TV. There are preferences to certain girls who are asked for photo shoots, ads, videos, etc. and you start to realize where you stand in the competition. "

"I had all the intentions to place high or at least place among the Top 10 but once I got there, I got to realize many things and you can't do much but to enjoy the rest of the days left."

"I find Molly an exceptional winner and I would talk to her about her preparation. Molly knew she would be in the Top 5 because she was trained for that."

"Miss Colombias are not prepared for Miss Universe. The objectives of a Miss Colombia are different than a Miss Venezuela whose objective is to win Miss Universe."

"I have no doubt that the franchise fees play a huge role in determining the favoritism of certain delegates."

"I am more than convinced that many of us who were left out is not because we are ugly or not competitive, but because our country does not have much importance to the MUO."

"I was a bit concerned before going to Miss Universe about what past Miss Colombias have told me. They told me that it is not what I am expecting it to be, and you don't win because of your beauty. Usually the one you never expected ends up winning."

"No one really knows what the real secret is, but it's all business and Donald Trump is one of the richest man in the world and he should know why he does certain things."

"Philippines has a major advantage because of the amount of support from fans, the group that cheers loudly in the venue and the amount of viewership from Philippines. All these count in placing. It's not only preparations which count.

"Miss Universe might be held in Philippines soon as Philippines is one of the countries which pay the highest franchise. They are not paying just to pay or just for simply representing their country, there are concrete reasons behind that."

"In Colombia it's Colombians who crown Colombians where as in Asia in Indonesia (and other Asian countries placing), the Miss Universe is present there during the crowning moment, and this has to do with the high franchise."

"Donald knows why he chooses his Top 16, Top 10, etc... there are judges there but then by the end you end up seeing a different surprise. "
