Mary Jane Veloso Spared From Execution In Indonesia
Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipina drug convict who was to be executed by firing squad in Indonesia today, has been spared at the eleventh hour, reports say.

Mary Jane Veloso Execution Postponed
According to Indonesian TV reports, eight of the nine scheduled executions pushed through. Veloso reportedly received a last-minute reprieve after Maria Kristina Sergio, the woman who allegedly tricked her into bringing a luggage with illegal drugs into Indonesia, turned herself in to authorities in the Philippines Tuesday morning.

Veloso was arrested at the Yogyakarta Airport in 2010 after she was found carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage. She, however, denied being a drug mule, saying she was tricked into bringing the luggage by Sergio without knowing it had illegal drugs.

Jennifer Laude's German Boyfriend Marc Sueselbeck Violated Philippine Law - AFP
German Marc Sueselbeck, boyfriend of murdered Filipino transgender Jennifer Laude, might be in trouble for climbing the fence of a military facility on Wednesday.

Jennifer Laude and Marc Sueselbeck
According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Sueselbeck violated the Presidential Decree No. 1227, or the law Punishing Unlawful Entry into Any Military Base in the Philippines when he climbed the perimeter fence of the MDB-SEB facility in Camp Aguinaldo where murder suspect US Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton is detained.

The AFP said it will submit a letter to the German Embassy and the Bureau of Immigration regarding the German national's misbehavior, claiming Sueselbeck also assaulted the on-duty Filipino soldier guarding the holding facility by forcefully shoving him.

"We also like to ascertain through the German Embassy the true identity and pertinent background information about Mr Sueselbeck whose misbehavior caught the attention of Philippine authorities," it said. "It is understood that any foreign nationals who visit the Philippines shall follow Philippine laws. The AFP will deal with the incident accordingly through proper channels."

Jennifer's sister, Marilou, first climbed the fence and Sueselbeck followed after she made her way in. They said they were protesting the "special treatment" accorded Pemberton.

Fetus In Fetu: 2-Year-Old Boy's Twin Found In His Stomach
Doctors in Pandan, Antique found a fetus inside a 2-year-old boy's stomach. The fetus is believed to be the child's embryonic twin absorbed into his abdomen when they were both in the womb.

Screen grab of GMA News TV report (Courtesy of GMA)
The phenomenon is called "fetus in fetu" which occurs in about one of every 500,000 live births.

"Fetus in fetu" takes place at the very early stage of twin pregnancy, when one fetus wraps around and envelops the other. The dominant fetus grows, while the fetus that would have been its twin lives on throughout the pregnancy, feeding off its host twin like a kind of parasite. Usually, both twins die before birth from the strain of sharing a placenta but sometimes the host twin survives just like the case in Antique and about a dozen more that have reported by the media over the years.

The little boy, whose name has not been released publicly, was supposed to get a surgery to remove the fetus from his stomach last year but because of Typhoon Yolanda his parents failed to bring him back to the hospital. He is currently admitted at the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Iloilo City. His family are now seeking for donations for the operation and medicines.

Below is GMA News TV's report of the "fetus in fetu" case in Antique:

Mayon Volcano Alert Status Upgraded To Level 3
Mayon Volcano's alert status has been raised to Level 3 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday night, September 15, 2014.

According to Phivolcs, Alert Level 3 means Mayon Volcano is exhibiting relatively high unrest and that magma is at the crater and that hazardous eruption is possible within weeks.

Phivolcs says that a noticeable escalation of unrest was recorded by the Mayon Volcano monitoring network from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Monday, with 39 rockfall events that are ascribed to incipient breaching of the growing summit lava dome across the southeastern crater rim, and 32 low frequency volcanic earthquakes that indicate magma intrusion and/or volcanic gas activity, have been detected.

Crater glow has also become observable, indicating incandescence of the crater from molten lava and hot volcanic gas, it adds.

The government agency, therefore, recommends that the 6-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around the volcano and the 7-km Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeastern flank be enforced due to the danger of rockfalls, landslides and sudden explosions or dome collapse that may generate hazardous volcanic flows.

Located in Albay, Mayon Volcano is the most active volcano in the Philippines. It has erupted more 48 times in the past 4 centuries.

In a press conference at the Senate, the 69-year-old feisty senator said she has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the left lung.

"I have come so you can see me personally before cancer ravages my body," she said. "I'm not afraid of cancer. There is nothing I'm afraid of."

She further stated that her cancer is not metastatic or has not spread to other parts of her body and she hopes to be cured after a 6-week medical treatment.

If you know that cancer has already metastasized, the only cure is chemotherapy and the chances are very low but in my case they are very, very well behaved. I believe I’ve been disciplined all my life. Even my cancer cells are showing excellent discipline," she quipped.

Sen. Santiago's revelation stunned the members of the media, who were expecting her to announce her candidacy for 2016 Presidential Election.

"When I go into remission, I might announce my candidacy for president for 2016 unless God gives me another disease," she added.
